Types of Teaching Methods

As all teachers know, all students do not learn in the same way. In addition, it is common for a class of students to be at a variety of levels in any particular subject. Teachers need to use different teaching methods in order to reach all students effectively. A variety of teaching strategies, a knowledge of student levels, and an implementation of which strategies are best for particular students can help teachers know which teaching methods will be most effective for their class.

Therefore, in this blog, we'll go deeply into some types of teaching methods used widely at present:
·  Lecturing – As part of the traditional method of teaching students, m any teachers use this teaching method almost exclusively, as it is considered the simplest, and you can cover large amounts of material in a short period of time. However, regardless the new technology to make classes more attactive, this is not the most effective teaching method to reach all students, especially younger ones, who often need a more engaging, hands-on strategy in order to learn effectively. In addition, it is hard for teachers to tailor instruction to students at different levels.

· Demonstrating – There is no other method that invokes a student’s attention than a physical demonstration. Demonstrations in the classroom can raise students’ curiosity while reinforcing memory retention. Students remember their lessons better when a demonstration has been done in class or outdoors. By proving that a concept can be applied in the real world, students will appreciate it better.
. Cooperative learning is another teaching method that is considered highly effective when done correctly. With cooperative learning, students are put in small groups to work together. They are usually not grouped by ability, but put in a group with children at a variety of levels. The students are then given tasks to accomplish together. Teachers may need to monitor these groups carefully, to make sure they are staying on task and that all students are participating. This form of instruction also lends itself well to differentiation, because the teacher can assign specific tasks to children at different ability levels.·
. Oral Reporting – Oral reporting has been an age-old teaching method that has become even more popular due to its effectiveness in teaching students several necessary skills for them to succeed in the real world. Standing in front of the class and assuming the role of the teacher allows students to take charge of the class and teach their fellow students a certain subject. Not only will they study and master the topic, but they will also practice their oral communication skills.

. Task-based learning is a teaching method which is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States. Based on the scientific method, this teaching method can be used for virtually all subjects. Using inquiry-based learning takes a lot of time, energy, and planning, but it is often very effective. Students practice problem solving and critical thinking skills to arrive at a conclusion. This teaching method is extremely student-centered and student-directed, and can be modified for students at any level, reaching them where they are. Teachers will generally need to start by modeling the process to the students.
· CLIL– Content and Language Integrated Learning: CLIL refers to situations where subjects, or parts of subjects, are taught through a foreign language with dual-focussed aims, namely the learning of content, and the simultaneous learning of a foreign language'. (Marsh, 1994) . This approach involves learning subjects such as history, geography or others, through an additional language. It can be very successful in enhancing the learning of languages and other subjects, and developing in the youngsters a positive ‘can do’ attitude towards themselves as language learners. (Marsh, 2000)

In all this process, we should take into account the importance of ICT in order to make all these methods more attractive and effective.
